Exploring The West: Day 10

Happy Father's Day!!! This will be a Father's Day to remember. We left Bryce Canyon and traveled on to Zion National Park. Zion is Utah's first National Park and is located in Springdale, Utah. This park is known for it's incredible canyons and magnificent views. It was really cool because to get to the lodge, where we got off the bus, we went through a tunnel over a mile long. The tunnel only had one lane. Once we got off the bus we were given 2 1/2 hours to explore. We had packed a picnic lunch so we took off for a few hours of exploration. We found the Virgin River to wade in. We then got on a shuttle bus that took us to a drop off where we walked the trail. It was like we were walking on the bottom of the canyon floor looking up at the step canyon walls and sandstone towers. It was at this drop-off that we had a picnic lunch. This time went really fast and then we were back on the bus headed to Lake Powell where Glen Canyon Dam is located. There were lots of corny "dam" jokes being told during this stop. After the stop at the Glen Canyon Dam visitor center, we got back on the bus and headed for our next optional excursion. This excursion was called The Antelope Canyon Cruise. We loaded onto a nice size boat with two decks. The top deck was open and the bottom deck was enclosed with air condition. We hung out on both decks. This cruise took us on a cruise of Lake Powell going through the narrow walls of Antelope Canyon. The rock formations all around us were quite unusual and beautiful. The cruise was very peaceful and relaxing. Once we got back to the hotel room we decided to stay put! We ordered pizza and just rested! Off to the Grand Canyon tomorrow.
